The Church of Ireland Marriage Council offers three services in support of marriage today: Marriage Enrichment, Marriage Preparation and Marriage Counselling plus Towards Marriage, a clergy resource pack.

Marriage Enrichment

Our one evening, marriage enrichment course,

Marriage Matters was developed with Christian Guidelines Ltd  and is designed for use as part of a social evening for couples in a parish or a group of parishes. The material is PowerPoint based and delivered by a recognised facilitator.

Whilst the course has a serious aim - to equip couples with relationships skills - the evening is totally non-threatening and includes plenty of light-hearted touches.

Facilitators from the Dioceses of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh, Limerick and Killaloe, Cashel and Ossory, Dublin and Glendalough, Cork and Connor are available to run the course. PowerPoint equipment may also be provided.

Marriage Preparation (ROI)

This is one-to-one marriage preparation which we've found to be more effective than general courses for groups.

The 3 hour session is taken by a trained counsellor and covers areas such as expectations, communication, sexuality, conflict resolution and parenting. It is intended to complement the preparation given by your local minister and is also suitable for couples marrying for the second time.

Due to a generous grant from the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs, the Council is able to subsidise couples taking the course in the Republic of Ireland.

Of a total cost of €200 the Marriage Council will pay €100, leaving the couple to pay €100 to the counsellor. We hope you agree that's a good investment at the start of married life.

Marriage Counselling (ROI)

Counselling is available to couples experiencing difficulties in their marriage. Again, the Council will subsidise the cost in the Republic of Ireland up to €65 per hour.
